Senior members of the Kingsgrove Community Aid Centre (KCAC) were treated to an online banking safety seminar last December 2, 2024. The event was attended by KCAC officials, CEO Anne Farah-Hill and Aged Care Coordinator Ms Gurmeed Nelson, alongside CommBank Branch Managers Carol Chami (Kingsgrove) and Hayley Street (Sylvania).
Due to a high-risk potential of today’s modern-day banking, the seminar was a necessary countermeasure against online scams and as a means of informing the senior community the safety features of the CommBank application.
Thank you Mr Chris Minns
Kingsgrove Community Aid and Ants
Mr CHRIS MINNS (Kogarah—Premier)—I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Kingsgrove Community Aid Centre and Australian Nursing and Training Services for their remarkable achievements in winning prestigious awards at the Georges River Local Business Awards earlier this year. This annual event is dedicated to recognizing and celebrating exceptional businesses within our local community, and these two organisations have made significant contributions. The Kingsgrove Community Aid Centre received the award for Outstanding Community Services. As a community-based, not-for-profit organisation, it is dedicated to addressing the needs of the local community, particularly for those who are socially, economically, and linguistically disadvantaged. Their services include Child Care, Family Programs, Aged Care, Allied Health Care, and support for people with disabilities. Australian Nursing and Training Services won the award for Outstanding Education Services. As a Registered Training Organisation, ANTS offers courses in Aged Care, Disability Care, Community Services, and Mental Health. The organisation helps students develop employability skills for careers in the care industry. Established in 1990, ANTS was the first college to introduce assistance nursing courses, enhancing national care standards. Congratulations to both the Kingsgrove Community Aid Centre and Australian Nursing and Training Services! @chrisminnsmp
Thank you Mr Chris Minns for this acknowledgement in Parliament.
Kingsgrove Community Aid Centre
Mr CHRIS MINNS (Kogarah—Premier)—I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and congratulate the team at Kingsgrove Community Aid Centre for their campaign to educate senior residents about online safety and scams. Kingsgrove Community Aid Centre invited officers from St George Police Area Command to address residents about how to remain safe online. The presentation taught seniors how to avoid fraud, protect parcel deliveries, and safeguard their personal data while shopping online. Senior citizens across NSW are increasingly using the internet for banking, socialising, and shopping, which has had the unfortunate side effect of opening the door for nebulous characters who use techniques such as fake emails and websites to exploit and scam elderly residents. The presentation recommended ways senior citizens can protect themselves online, including strong passwords, two-factor authentication, verifying emails and messages before responding, as well as refraining from sending sensitive data across untrusted networks. The internet has provided opportunities for our senior citizens to remain connected and independent longer than previous generations, but this has also created new challenges. I congratulate and thank Kingsgrove Community Aid Centre and St George Police Local Area Command on this campaign to help seniors stay safe online.

The combined disability and seniors excursion to the gelato factory on the 1st October, where the amazing staff @artofgelatogelateria took us on a journey through the world of gelato. Thank you to Vincent for coming out and talking to the group, who enjoyed every minute and learned so much about what you do. They loved tasting the gelato and buying some to take home. This was followed by lunch at Rashays. The feedback from the group was so positive and we will be going back there for more gelato! 🍧

Today’s trip for the combined seniors and disability groups, was to have Devonshire tea at Ebenezer Church and the weather couldn’t have been more perfect. After morning tea they went into the church and learned the history of the oldest operating church in Australia. A big thank you to Ted for the interesting and informative talk. They then headed to the Macquarie Boathouse cafe for lunch, before heading back home. All had a beautiful day in the Hawkesbury. ☀️ ⛪️ 🫖 🍰 🥗
In today's issue of the St George Leader, a letter to the editor from our CEO Anne Farah-Hill, on the retirement of Linda Burney. We thank Linda Burney for all she has done in support of our local community as the Member for Barton.
What a glorious day the disability group had yesterday at Calmsley Hill City Farm. They were able to feed the animals such as sheep and goats, watch the sheep sheering, see the horses, cows, turkeys, chickens, camels and cows. No tractor ride for this group but they enjoyed the coffee and lunch from the cafe and the wonderful service provided by the farm staff. 🐐 🦃 🐓 🦆 🪿 🐥 🐇 🐄 🐎 🐪 🐑 🚜 👩🌾 🦚 @calmsley_hill
Thank you to our Italian seniors for making it a special day today celebrating Christmas in July Italian style. Special thanks to our volunteers Anna and Melinna who made the Zipole and to all the ladies who contributed and made the delicious Italian sweets. Very crunchy and tasty. Thanks to our Connie for her cheffing of beautiful meals and of course to our hard working staff and to all our students doing their diploma in community service placements.
It was a day enjoyed by all.
Yesterday, we celebrated BLUE Christmas in July, with the combined disability and Arabic seniors groups. There were Christmas carols, blue Christmas decorations, a bbq chicken feast with all the trimmings as well as art and craft, where the participants could chose from making Christmas decorations or colouring. We decided to go blue, to support the blues in the state of origin decider that night, and they won!!! We wish everyone a happy Christmas in July and go the mighty Blues!! 💙🎄💙🎄💙

Yesterday, the combined disability and seniors groups enjoyed an outing to experience the giant that is Costco! They were given VIP passes to shop and a tour, followed by a very economical lunch. Thank you to Claudia and the management Costco Wholesale Australia crossroads, for the wonderful service and making the group feel special.
Last Wednesday, the KCAC disability participants enjoyed a music therapy day, with the wonderful music therapist, Belinda. Lunch was a sausage sizzle, rolls and salads. Yesterday, the disability participants celebrated the cultural festival of the Italian Republic, with Italian biscuits for morning tea, dancing and singing to Italian music, a delicious italian lunch and themed craft such as making friendship bracelets and colouring. Making the friendship bracelets was tricky at first but they got the hang of it and created some great patterns that were all very unique. Everyone had a wonderful time. 🇮🇹 🍝 🥖 🥗 🪗 💃 🎶
Tuesdays trip to Robertson was a cold but beautiful sunny day for the combined seniors and disability group. There was a delicious brunch at @moonacreskitchen followed by the Cheese Factory and vintage shop, then the famous pie shop to pick up some yummy pies for home. The journey there and back in the bus saw the group singing to all their favourite songs. Thank you to our wonderful KCAC bus driver, Max, for getting us there and back safely. ☀️ ❄️ 🍽️ 🧀 🐄 🥧 😀
